The Presbyterian Church USA has a long-standing tradition of supporting new congregations as they begin their life of faith. In fact, your congregation (whatever its age), was probably started by the intentional effort and support of other missional sister congregations.
All throughout that process, these churches benefited not only from learning new ways of mission, evangelism and community outreach – they also received the blessing of friendship and mutuality with a sister congregation who grew in mission and discipleship because their “mother” church did.
The NCDC and the sister churches with whom we serve connect chartered congregations and new churches to one another as we grow Christ’s church – deep and wide.
Ideas how you or your congregation can get involved in the central mission of the church:
- Pray regularly (in community worship and as individuals/families) for the ministries and leaders of these new congregations;
- Invite your Sunday School or confirmation class to worship with you at one of our sister new churches; Greet the congregation you visit in the spirit of Christian sister/brotherhood. Share your experience with your church;
- Partner on a mission or outreach opportunity with an NCD or fellowship;
- Invite new church leaders to speak at your church. Ask and learn what ministries help them make an impact in their communities;
- Participate in learning seminars and events sponsored by the New Church Development Commission.
Leadership and other gifts you may offer a new church:
- A love-offering and/or regular financial support to the NCDC for new churches;
- An excellent educator willing to participate in or lead the training of a group of elders-or deacons-elect;
- A church treasurer with a willingness to mentor a new congregation as it establishes financial protocol;
- Gently-used church furniture and current Christian Educational curriculum for all ages (to borrow or donate);
- Partnership with an NCD or fellowship from its birth to constitution (perhaps beyond) through offerings of spiritual fellowship, hospitality, financial support, and mentorship.
